Spotlight on LG response to homelessness in the capitals

The Council to Homeless Persons is looking for contributions for its national publication that explore local government’s response to homelessness.

The forthcoming May edition of Parity will be devoted to examining and discussing the homelessness strategies/policies and initiatives that many capital city and inner-city local governments have embarked on in recent years.

According to the magazine’s editors, this proactive local government role is in direct contrast to the withdrawal, since 2013, of the federal government from an active role in initiating responses to homelessness and progressing a national housing strategy.

“That the
response to homelessness requires a ‘whole of government’ approach has long
been accepted wisdom,” the magazine says.

“Local
government, and particularly capital city local governments, are often the
first port of call for people concerned about homelessness in an area, and as
such, local governments continue to be a significant player in the ‘whole of
government’ approach.”

The Council for Capital City Lord Mayors (CCCLM) and Launch Housing are sponsoring the May edition of Parity.

Contributions can be up to 1600 words and should be emailed to parity@cph.org.au
