Smart Cities Awards: Parramatta picks up leadership category

The
City of Parramatta Council has taken out the coveted Leadership City category at
this year’s Smart Cities Awards

Paramatta
won the judges’ nod for implementing a suite of dynamic smart cities projects,
including sensing network on a new 25-hectare development, a parking app which
was enhanced in 2020 in response to Covid-19, and Floodsmart Paramatta,
Australia’s first automated real time flash flood warning system.

The
19 winners from across seven award categories included the City of Casey, Lake
Macquarie City Council, the City of Darwin, and the City of Canterbury
Bankstown.

Individuals
named as “Smart Cities Leaders” included City of Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding (recognised
for delivering Australia’s first “smart transparency and integrity hub”) and
Lake Macquarie Council’s Claire Chaikin-Bryan (recognised as an emerging leader
for her work to expand the use of IoT, support local innovators and encourage
community digital and data literacy).
