Federal funding boost for LG careers guidance initiatives

A Victorian and NSW council have won a share of $5.8 million in federal funding to provide careers guidance for people at all stages of their working lives.

The Eurobodalla Shire Council on the NSW South Coast will work with local schools and businesses to co-design and deliver progressive career guidance activities on the NSW South Coast.

The Moonee
Valley City Council will work with local community organisations to create a
co-designed career guidance program for migrant and refugee women living in
inner Melbourne suburbs.

The
projects are among 16 to be awarded funding under Round 2 of the National
Careers Institute’s Partnerships Grants program.

Federal Employment,
Workforce, Skills, Small and Family Business Minister Stuart Robert said: “[The
projects] will help back Australians to find new skills by forging better connections
between industry, employers, schools, tertiary providers and community
organisations”.

Round three
applications will open on 20 October, with a total of $10 million of grants on
offer and a focus on improving career pathways and information for women,
particularly in non-traditional industries and occupations.
