Cth apprenticeship subsidy program extended by six months

The Federal Government is offering employers, including local governments, another $1.2 billion as it extends a wage subsidy scheme begun last October.

Under the program, employers “of any size, or industry,
Australia-wide” that take on new trainees can apply for funding to pay for 50
percent of their wages for the first year, up to a cap of $7000 per quarter.

The new money, announced this week, is expected to enable
another 70,000 apprentices to be employed over the next year – on top of the
100,000 apprentices taken on since October.

The initial phase of the Boosting Apprenticeship
Commencements program, announced with $1.2 billion in funding, was capped at
100,000 places.

Employers who take on an apprentice up until September 30 may
be eligible for the wage subsidy. There is no cap on the number of eligible
trainees/apprentices.
