BITRE pulls plug on Cities Performance Framework

A review of
the National Cities Performance Framework (NCPF) says it is not meeting stakeholder
needs and should be discontinued.

Conducted by the federal Bureau of Infrastructure and Transport Research Economics (BITRE), the review says there are alternative data and research products that would “better meet the needs of stakeholders”.

The NCPF
dashboard was first launched in 2017 as a statistical resource designed to help
measure the performance of Australian cities and inform cities policy.

Updated
annually since 2018, it presents over 50 indicators for the county’s 21 largest
cities (with populations above 80,000 people) plus Western Sydney.

BITRE says discontinuing the dashboard will allow it to produce better-targeted, higher-priority research products.

The agency will
continue to supply frequently requested data from the NCPF (such as population
and labour force indicators) as an input to monitoring the progress of City
Deals.
