Tas LGs to help deliver better drought resilience plans

Tasmania councils will be able to develop regional drought resilience plans with rural organisations, communities and farmers under new programs announced last Sunday.

The
initiatives – the $9.85 million Regional Drought Resilience Planning program
and the $16 million Farm Business Resilience program – are aimed at identifying
how to manage through droughts and build resilience across agricultural sectors
and allied industries.

Federal Agriculture,
Drought and Emergency Management Minister David Littleproud said planning will
be community-led and will integrate regional knowledge and perspectives
together with the best available evidence and data.

The
Tasmanian state government will coordinate the delivery of the two initiatives.

Farm Business Resilience and Regional Drought Resilience Planning programs are being progressively rolled out across all states and territories as part of the $5 billion Future Drought Fund.
