MobileMuster’s top local government recyclers named at NGA21

The East
Arnhem Regional Council was named one of the top seven local government mobile
phone recyclers at this week’s National General Assembly.

Other state
and territory winners of MobileMuster’s recycling awards included Hornsby Shire
Council, Cairns Regional Council, City of Charles Sturt Council (SA), City of
Launceston Council, City of Monash Council (Vic), and Mindarie Regional Council
(WA).

Head of MobileMuster Spyro Kalos paid tribute to the winners and acknowledged the stewardship program’s council partners “who help us educate the community and recycle through the program”.

“We know
all know that electronic waste, such as mobile phones, shouldn’t be placed in
kerbside garbage or recycling bins, and we need to make it easy for the
community to recycle safely and securely through accredited government programs
like MobileMuster.”

Local government MobileMuster collection sites now number more than 1000, with the program recovering over 95 percent of the material from old phones and accessories.

These are then used in the manufacture of new products, reducing the need for virgin materials.

The MobileMuster awards recognise the council programs, services, and people who support and promote the program.
