Bunnings, Planet Ark enlisted in Sydney tree-planting program
The NSW
State Government has signed new partnerships with Planet Ark and Bunnings to
drive its target of planting a million trees by 2022.
The three-year partnership deal with Planet Ark – which stages National Tree Day – is intended to promote tree-planting efforts across Greater Sydney, while the Bunnings partnership will see the retailer give 8750 trees to Sydneysiders as part of a backyard planting pilot program.
Planning
and Public Spaces Minister Rob Stokes said: “Greening our urban neighbourhoods
and backyards is integral to our community’s health and wellbeing …and [these] partnerships
with Planet Ark and Bunnings will help deliver better urban environments for
generations to come.”
Planet Ark deputy
CEO Rebecca Gilling said the organisation had worked with the NSW Government on
various sustainability projects over the past 10 years and was looking forward
to partnering on another great environmental initiative.
To date, more than 293,000 trees have been planted as part of “Greening our city”, one of the NSW Premier’s Priorities to plant one million trees across Greater Sydney by 2022, and five million trees by 2030.
